About Wastepicker.de

The Project
This page aims to report the living and working conditions of the wastepickers in Phnom Penh and around, and especially the children among them.

We only know the statistics with the number of people living of less than a dollar a day .(1)

But all those people have faces, and a name and each one of them has a story to tell. In Phnom Penh, Cambodia I was allowed to meet some of them and spent some time together with them.

In the first place this webpage should serve to collect and to tell stories of wastepickers and call attention to their personal situation of life. For wastepickers, who know about this project, this site can offer an opportunity to report actively about their lives and to open a dialog with the reader. Or the webpage can simply offer a meeting place for kindred spirits working in this field.

I would like to open up the content of this page and use this space for all interested people and actors, and make the page available as a place for open dialog and exchange of information and experiences.

Inspiration and ideas are more than welcome. This page will therefore stay an open project and I look forward to your cooperation, however it might develop in the future.

(1) According to the World Bank report ”Global Economic Prospects and the Developing Countries 2000“ the number of people living of less than 2$ per day in the year 1998 is estimated on 2,8 Billion people, which is nearly half of the global population.
